King's Week Ahead - Week of October 26, 2026
Greetings King Families,
In the last week of October, we have some unique days and release times as we go through Teacher Conferences week.
Here’s what to expect this week:
Monday, October 26 is a regular dismissal day–students will be released at 3:05 PM, as normal.
Tuesday (10/27), Wednesday (10/28), and Thursday (10/29) are all early dismissal days, with students released at 12:15 PM. Students can lunch from the Dining Commons on a grab-and-go basis.
On Friday, October 30, there will be no school, for the BUSD Secondary Break. Classes will resume on Monday, November 2.
As a note, Halloween falls on the weekend this year. However, we expect that several students will still want to dress up and wear costumes on Thursday. For those who do, we are providing reminder guidelines about wearing costumes:
Halloween Expectations for Students. As Halloween approaches, we want to remind everyone of our school’s guidelines around maintaining a safe campus during this time.
Students may choose to dress up for Halloween on Thursday, though Halloween falls on Saturday this year. In order to maintain a safe school community on Halloween, we must make sure that we are thoughtful about avoiding racially, ethnically, and culturally-based attire. I encourage you to have conversations about Halloween costumes and the harms of cultural appropriation with your students. To learn more, I invite you to review this Cultures aren’t Costumes checklist, in English and Spanish. Additionally, here are a few parameters for your student’s costume: no full face masks, no blood, no fake weapons or props/accessories; costumes should not impact the teaching or learning of a classroom and students should be able to safely navigate campus with their costumes. Please discuss these parameters with your student(s).
Additionally, students often ask about bringing candy to school. We encourage healthy eating and foods as much as possible during the school day, and if candy is being distributed and becomes disruptive or a distraction, please know that it is subject to confiscation.
Thanks, and have a great week ahead!
With love,
Michael Tison Yee
