LEARNS Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What hours does LEARNS operate?

A: Directly after school from 3:15 to 6pm.

Q: I want to pick up my student before 6pm, can I?

A: Yes, students are free to go whenever a parent picks them up. There is a waiver form if you give your student permission to sign themselves out to walk, bus or bike home. Once your student signs out of LEARNS we are no longer responsible for them.

Q: My student only wants to attend a class that starts at 4:30pm. Can they leave King and come back later for LEARNS?

A: No. All students must show up at LEARNS directly after normal classes end.

Q: Where do I pick my student up?

A: You may pick your student up from their class or you can have a staff member radio for them to come out. A staff member will always be present on the blacktop in front of our office at B-1.

Q: How do I sign up?

A: Sign up at https://berkeleylearns.asapconnected.com. There is a $15.00 registration fee for the program.

Q: When can I sign up?

A: You can begin to register in mid-summer. In late summer, all King families will receive a letter by USPS mail that will provide initial instructions for enrollment.

​

Q: I've been told my student is on a waitlist. Will we get into the program?

A: Yes. All students are accepted into the LEARNS program, after registration and payment is complete. The waitlist is a holding area while we process your registration and payment.

Q: We have financial need. Can we still register for LEARNS?

A: Yes. If you need a scholarship, please set up a meeting with the Program Specialist 

​

Q: I've registered for LEARNS, now my student wants to pick which enrichment class they'll take. How do we select classes?

A: Class selection will be available the day of the Welcome Fair.

​

Q: My student wants to enroll in a class I've been told is popular. Will they get in?

A: Depending on the class, there may be a waitlist. We ask all students to select their top three choices of classes for the days they will be attending LEARNS. Most students get their first choice.

Q: My student wants to participate in sports but doesn't want to do any after school classes. Do we have to register with LEARNS?

A: Yes. All King sports are offered through the LEARNS program.

Q: The school year has already started and I want my student to start attending LEARNS. Can we start late?

A: Yes.

​

Q: The school year has already started, and I want my student to start playing a sport. Can we start late?

A: No. If for any reason you are unable to attend the dates for sports try-outs, please contact Program Specialist.

Q: My student wants to take a LEARNS class with their friend. Can they be in the same class?

A: Yes, so long as they both sign up for the class and you let me know. I will do everything in my power to make sure they get into the same class together.

Q: Does LEARNS operate on school holidays?

A: No, only on days school is in session.

​

Q: Are the sports and enrichment classes the same as last year?

A: No, offerings change all the time, although there are many similarities from year to year.

​

Q: I would like my student to attend LEARNS, but only on Tuesdays. Do they have to attend every day of the week?

A: No. When you enroll, you can choose which days of the week your student will attend. Fees are represented on the fees scale.

​

Q: Does it always have to be the same days of the week?

A: Yes, we need to know when students will be on campus in order to account for them.

​

Q. If my child will be absent for LEARNS what do I do?

A. If your child will be absent from LEARNS please send an email or call the LEARNS office so we know.
