LEARNS Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What hours does LEARNS operate?

A: Directly after school from 3:15 to 6pm.

Q: I want to pick up my student before 6pm, can I?

A: Yes, students are free to go whenever a parent picks them up. There is a waiver form if you give your student permission to sign themselves out to walk, bus or bike home. Once your student signs out of LEARNS we are no longer responsible for them.

Q: My student only wants to attend a class that starts at 4:30pm. Can they leave King and come back later for LEARNS?

A: No. All students must show up at LEARNS directly after normal classes end.

Q: Where do I pick my student up?

A: You may pick your student up from their class or you can have a staff member radio for them to come out. A staff member will always be present on the blacktop in front of our office at B-1.

Q: How do I sign up?

A: Sign up at https://berkeleylearns.asapconnected.com. There is a $15.00 registration fee for the program.

Q: When can I sign up?

A: You can begin to register in mid-summer. In late summer, all King families will receive a letter by USPS mail that will provide initial instructions for enrollment.

Q: I've been told my student is on a waitlist. Will we get into the program?

A: Yes. All students are accepted into the LEARNS program, after registration and payment is complete. The waitlist is a holding area while we process your registration and payment.

Q: We have financial need. Can we still register for LEARNS?

A: Yes. If you need a scholarship, please set up a meeting with the Program Specialist of LEARNS LaShonda Roquemore.

A: Class selection will be available the day of the Welcome Fair.

A: Depending on the class, there may be a waitlist. We ask all students to select their top three choices of classes for the days they will be attending LEARNS. Most students get their first choice.
