Back to School News - August 4 Message

King Families,

School starts on August 16th and we are looking forward to welcoming all families back with a Welcome Fair. We have a lot of new staff and we are all so eager to have students back on campus despite healthy fears about the delta variant.

This year all students will be masked indoors and outside also. Please discuss this requirement with your students so the expectation is clear. I know that not all summer camps and programs have been requiring masks but they will be required here. Lunch and breakfast will be free to all students and will be eaten outdoors.

We have a new bell schedule and 7th and 8th graders will be eating lunch at the same time. The start and end times are the same.

There was an error in my letter.

Back to School Night will be 9/2. More information will be coming from the Superintendent about whether that will be in person or virtual again.

The deadline to register for Infinite Campus has been extended. This is the new information system. We will not have emergency contact information for your student unless you register so please do so today! The district sent you a letter. Please call me if you have any questions email portalhelp@berkeley.net or call the portal support line at 510-883-6147.

Are there any parents who could help us put together our new outdoor concrete ping pong tables? We can send you a video of how to put them together. This is probably a good job for a small team of handy people with tools. Please contact David Gold if you can help.

The Welcome Fair will be on Friday, August 13th from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. This year, all activities will be held outdoors on the blacktop near the baseball field and dining commons. Enter the King campus through the Grant Street gate. Please note that masks are required for all attendees.

Here are the details for when you should attend. The morning times are for 6th grade families and those new to King; the afternoon is for returning families.

At the Welcome Fair, you will have the opportunity to learn all about King, including: After-school Program, Music, Sports, Enrichment, Edible Schoolyard, PTA and more!

You can pick up pre-purchased PE uniforms for your 7th or 8th grader. If you did not order uniforms by the deadline, you will have another opportunity to order online August 16-23. Your student will get their uniform from their PE teacher during the first few weeks of school.

There will also be a DJ, so plan to hang out for a bit to enjoy the music and meet other families.

If you cannot attend the Welcome Fair, plan to get your student's schedule on the first day of school between 8:00-8:30AM.

Thanks so much!

Janet Levenson
