Greetings King Families,
This week, we enter the second part of Quarter 1. Progress report grades for Habits of Work (HOW) should be entered and available by the end of the week to be seen in Infinite Campus. As part of rigorous monitoring, we encourage all families to review grades with their students at the end of the week to have conversations about how things are going in each class, and which teachers to check in with to make sure we stay on track with our learning this year.
Here’s what the week will look like:
In 6th Grade, the first Welcome Dinners are beginning this week. On Tuesday (9/16), families in the Mr. Keeley/Teacher Gallo and Mr. Nueva/Ms. Alessi/Ms. Paske cores will be invited to be in community at the Dining Commons from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. On Thursday (9/18), families in the Mr. Jacobs/Ms. Vargas and Ms. Goldman/Ms. O'Connell cores are invited. Additional messaging from PTA invited families to bring dishes to share. We look forward to seeing you then!
Other Items:
Thanks to all parents and guardians who showed interest in joining the School Site Council (SSC) this year! We will push out a separate message this week about voting for our members.
Berkeley Middle School LEGO Robotics teams will be starting up our 2nd year soon! We will be signing up student participants in early October. Right now, we are looking for parent/family volunteers to assist the lead teacher at King with the team sessions that will happen once a week after school for 1.5 hours (day TBD soon), along with a district competition event in the spring. Volunteers will serve as mentors/coaches to the student participants. You don't have to be an expert at robotics to help out, but experience with coding and Lego building is very useful. If you are interested (or just need more information), contact debbielenz@berkeley.net.
Thanks and have a great week ahead!
With love,
Michael Tison Yee
