Greetings King Families,
This week is a short, though busy one for the King community! Throughout the week we have minimum dismissals at 12:15 PM and Parent-Teacher Conferences, with no school on Friday.
Here’s what to expect this week:
All week long, students will be on a minimum dismissal bell schedule, with school ending at 12:15 PM each day. For any students who normally eat school lunch, to-go lunches will be ready at the Dining Commons during dismissal.
Parent-Teacher conferences are happening throughout the week, with the bulk of conferences happening on Tuesday and Wednesday, primarily for the Upper School (7th and 8th Grade).
As a reminder, 7th and 8th Grade conferences are on a sign-up basis through Humanities and drop-in for all other classes. Please refer to this document for sign-ups and room locations within the Main Building.
In 6th Grade, core teachers have reached out regarding scheduling for student-led conferences hosted by one of the core or Advisory teachers.
On Friday, October 31, there will be no school (Secondary Break in BUSD). Classes will resume on Monday, November 3.
Noteworthy Items:
Halloween Expectations for Students. As Halloween approaches, we want to remind everyone of our school’s guidelines around maintaining a safe campus during this time.
Students may choose to dress up for Halloween on Thursday, the day before Halloween (October 31st) this year. In order to maintain a safe school community on Halloween, we must make sure that we are thoughtful about avoiding racially, ethnically, and culturally-based attire. I encourage you to have conversations about Halloween costumes and the harms of cultural appropriation with your students. To learn more, I invite you to review this Cultures aren’t Costumes checklist, in English and Spanish. Additionally, here are a few parameters for your student’s costume: no full face masks, no blood, no fake weapons or props/accessories; costumes should not impact the teaching or learning of a classroom and students should be able to safely navigate campus with their costumes. Please discuss these parameters with your student(s).
Additionally, students often ask about bringing candy to school. We encourage healthy eating and foods as much as possible during the school day, and if candy is being distributed and becomes disruptive or a distraction, please know that it is subject to confiscation.
Thanks and have a great week ahead!
With love,
Michael Tison Yee
