Good Afternoon King Families,
Thank you all for your support in an amazing first week of school with our students! The school was full of joy and positive energy, and our staff couldn’t have been happier to see the buildings back to life. This week, we enter our first full week of school, with a quick close to August coming soon!
Here’s what to expect in the week ahead:
For the Upper School (7th and 8th Grade), most weeks we follow a block schedule on Thursdays and Fridays. This means that on Thursdays, they will only see their odd-period classes (i.e., Periods 1, 3, and 5 with Advisory), and on Fridays, they will only see their even-period classes (i.e., Periods 2, 4, 6, and Advisory). This week will be the first week 7th and 8th graders experience the block schedule.
Congratulations to our 6th Graders for completing Orientation Week! This week, they will attend classes according to their true schedules, which were distributed on Friday. As a friendly reminder, you can always check schedules on the Infinite Campus Student/Parent Portal, which is also a great way to check grades throughout the year. Unlike the 7th and 8th Graders, there is no block schedule, and 6th Graders see all classes every day.
A couple of friendly reminders:
King Middle School has a strict policy regarding cell phone use during the day. If cell phones are seen or used in an authorized manner during the school day, they are subject to confiscation, with increasing consequences including parent/guardian pick-up for multiple infractions. This policy also applies to unauthorized use of smart watches. If you need to get a hold of your student, please reach out directly to the office. We tell students that calling their parents is not a valid excuse to use their phones–they should always seek permission from Administrators or office staff at the Main Office before texting/calling family.
At end-of-day pick up, please avoid using Grant Street adjacent to the Main Building to double park and wait for your student(s). We often have delivery trucks, equipment vehicles, and sports needs that require us to keep that street clear. Additionally, we want to be kind to our neighbors by not causing unnecessary traffic! If you are picking up your student by car, it might be helpful to coordinate a pick-up location a couple of blocks away from school, where there is less traffic.
Thanks again for a great start of the year!
With love,
Michael Tison Yee
