Fall Festival: We need help!

The King Fall Festival, an incredible event free to the community with food, activities, music, and more, will be happening soon (date TBD). We need help to make the event happen.

Example tasks include reaching out to vendors and confirming pricing and availability, coordinating with teachers and staff to confirm activity tables, ordering supplies, etc.

The time commitment can be as little as 1-2 hours/week and flexible timing.

Please email kingpta@berkeley.net if you'd like to help and meet new people!

6th Grade Welcome Dinners

Join Ms. Ortega, your child's core teachers, and other 6th grade families for dinner! The three dinners are organized by core teachers and will take place at the Dining Commons from 6 - 7 pm. Siblings are welcome to attend.

Thursday, September 18 - Jacobs, Vargas, Goldman, O'Connell

The PTA will provide pizza, and we are asking families to contribute an item according to last name:

A-L: side dish

M-R: drinks

S-Z: dessert

Please complete the RSVP form so we know how many to expect, and note on the form if you are vegan or gluten-free. And, if you aren't able to bring anything, just bring yourselves!

We also need volunteers for set up, food service, and clean up. Shifts are short so you'll still be able to mingle. Please sign up to volunteer at this link. We look forward to seeing you!

Black to School Cookout

The 4th Annual Black to School Cookout hosted by BUSD will feature games, prizes, and hands-on activities.

There will also be a school spirit competition, so attendees are encouraged to wear their school colors.

Supplies and lunch will be available as long as they last.

Please feel free to RVSP by clicking this Link.

Time: 11AM - 1PM

Where: Willard Middle School at 2425 Stuart St., Berkeley, CA.

Volunteer at Lunch in the Garden

Hello King families -

Want to help us open the garden for students at lunch??!

We are seeking regular, committed, caring adults to be extra eyes and ears in the garden to help us make sure everyone can enjoy the space in a safe way. This typically looks like doing some sort of garden task or working at our sign in table while keeping an eye on students in your assigned zone. The current shifts, starting in October, are:

  • Wednesdays, 10:45 am - 12:45 pm (all grade level lunches)

  • Thursdays, 10:45 am - 12:45 pm (7th and 6th grade lunches)

  • Thursdays, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm (6th and 8th grade lunches)

To become a lunchtime volunteer, we ask that you join one of the following orientations:

  • Wednesday, September 17 @ 12 - 12:45 pm

  • Thursday, September 18 @ 12 - 12:45 pm

  • Wednesday, September 24 @ 12 - 12:45 pm

RSVP by sending an email to volunteerberkeley@edibleschoolyard.org to let us know which orientation you will attend. We will send more information with arrival details after you confirm your attendance. If you can’t make these orientation times, but think you’d be able to commit to a regular shift, please let us know by emailing your availability, and we will attempt to set up a make-up orientation at a later date.

Thank you for your support and consideration!

Lego Robotics

Berkeley Middle School LEGO ROBOTICS TEAMS will be starting up our 2nd year soon!

We will be signing up student participants in early October.

Right now, we are looking for parent/family volunteers to assist the lead teacher at King with the team sessions that will happen once a week after school for 1.5 hours (day TBD soon), along with a district competition event in the spring. Volunteers will serve as mentors/coaches to the student participants.

You don't have to be an expert at robotics to help out, but experience with coding and Lego building is very useful.

If you are interested (or just need more information), contact debbielenz@berkeley.net.

Fri-yay Coffee Pop-ups @ King

King Coffee is on Friday mornings during drop-off time at the corner of Grant and Rose. Hope to see you there on dry days to meet and mingle with other King parents. (Bring your own mug if you remember to.)
