King's Week Ahead - Week of September 28, 2026

Happy Sunday King Families,

This week, we close out our month of September, ready to soon launch our School Site Council and heading toward some big milestones, including the annual 6th Grade Codornices walking field trip on Friday, October 9.

Here’s what to expect this week:

• Thursday and Friday, we have our first round of vision screenings, conducted through PE and Dance classes, as well as with the support of case managers for students in Special Education. Continue to encourage students to be on time, especially during the first period of the day.

Here’s a couple of other notes and reminders:

• Looking ahead, Tuesday, October 6 (next week), will be Picture Day on campus. As a recommendation, we encourage students to not wear darker clothing themes, as the picture backgrounds tend to already be dark.

• We have noticed a growing trend of students attempting to sell items at school or near school grounds, such as snacks and junk food, as well as other items, such as fidgets. This type of activity is not permitted on campus, as it causes disruption and distraction, and items will be confiscated during the school day. Furthermore, handling money frequently leads to negative outcomes, and like personal property, like cell phones or other valuables, the school is not responsible for things that are misplaced or go missing. Please help us support positive campus culture with these crucial conversations with your students.

BUSD and King Middle School are launching a new initiative called Middle School Pathways to Biliteracy for 8th grade multilingual students. This year, 8th grade multilingual students can complete requirements for the Home Language Development Recognition. The Home Language Development Recognition is designed to celebrate multilingual students' home language and encourage them to continue on the path to biliteracy. 

• Who Can Apply: Multilingual Learner eighth graders who have a home language other than English and continue to develop their home language.

• Requirements: Details for each activity are outlined here.

  1. Read three or more books in your home language

  2. Complete a writing assignment in your home language

  3. Record yourself reading your writing assignment.

Students must complete the requirements by the end of Quarter 3 in order to be recognized with a seal on their diploma, academic excellence medal, and recognition at the 8th grade promotion ceremony. 

If your child is interested in obtaining the Home Language Development Recognition, please complete the following by next Friday, October 2nd:

1. Students: Join our Google Classroom and complete STEP 1 SURVEY. Class code = t35vbh43

2. Parents/families: Complete this interest survey.
